GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT

Heritage Golf and Country Club is seeking a dedicated and experienced Golf Course Superintendent to lead our turf management team. Located near Cornwall in South Glengarry, Ontario, our semi-private club features a scenic and challenging 27-hole course, practice facilities, clubhouse, and banquet hall.

 

Position Summary

The Superintendent will be responsible for all aspects of golf course maintenance and agronomic operations to ensure exceptional playing conditions for our members and guests. This leadership role requires expertise in turfgrass management, personnel supervision, and financial planning.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Turfgrass Management: Develop and implement comprehensive turfgrass and plant material maintenance programs for all tees, fairways, roughs, and greens.
  • Personnel Management: Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise maintenance staff, fostering a safe and respectful work environment.
  • Financial Management: Prepare and manage the annual maintenance and capital improvement budgets, including cost control for payroll, supplies, chemicals, and fertilizers.
  • Equipment and Facilities: Oversee the maintenance and repair of all mechanical equipment and the general upkeep of facilities like the driving range, practice areas, and course structures.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure all operations comply with local, provincial, and federal regulations, including the safe application and recording of pesticides and fertilizers.
  • Communication: Coordinate with the General Manager and Pro Shop to schedule maintenance around member play and events, minimizing disruption.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • A degree or diploma in Agronomy, Horticulture, Turf Management, or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • Extensive knowledge of turfgrass science, irrigation systems, water management, and construction principles.
  • Valid Pesticide Applicator certification and IPM certification.
  • Strong communication, financial management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge and passion for the game of golf.
