ASSISTANT IN TRAINING

The Oaks of Cobden is accepting resumes for the position of Assistant-in-Training. 

POSITION OVERVIEW

(AIT). The AIT will work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and will be exposed to all aspects of the golf course industry with the option of moving into the Superintendents position in the near future.  This is currently an hourly, seasonal position with a competitive compensation package.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong organizational skills with a desire to learn, grow and challenge his/herself.
  • 3+ years experience in the golf course industry.
  • Graduate of a Turfgrass Management Program preferred, but not necessary. Training will be ongoing.
  • Punctuality, with the ability to work flexible hours, especially early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  • Knowledge of both fertilizers, chemicals, and their purpose in growing turf.
  • Highly adaptable, open-minded, and task-driven with solid communication skills that allow one to work effectively in a team environment. Strong aspirations to learn and advance in the Turfgrass Industry.
  • Can obtain an Ontario exterminator’s license and/or IPM accreditation with reimbursement once achieved.
  • Extremely meticulous and understands the importance this will play in providing superior member and guest experiences.
  • Team player who excels at promoting a team environment and continually strives to improve the work atmosphere.
  • Possesses strong organizational insight to stay on task.
  • Cheerful outlook and openness to learning and developing further skills related to the position.
  • Knowledge of the game of golf and the importance of course setup.   

RESPONSIBILITIES

Candidate will contribute to, and be responsible for, but not limited to, the following activities under the guidance of the Superintendent:

  • Assist the Superintendent with coordinating and scheduling a daily maintenance plan.
  • Perform chemical and fertilizer applications to all surfaces as well as maintaining accurate records of all applications and calibrations.
  • Assist in record keeping and other administrative duties as required for the greens department. (payroll, budgeting)
  • Supervise all staff and follow up on scheduled tasks to ensure level of completion has been met or exceeded.
  • Building positive relationships with all staff and departments.
  • Assist in the hiring and recruiting of all seasonal staff.
  • Scheduling of irrigation cycles and water management on the golf course.
  • Irrigation repair and maintenance practices.
  • Will play a key role in training new and returning staff on safe operation of equipment and maintenance practices in coordination with course mechanic.
  • Communicating course conditions, observations and making recommendations.
  • Performing fertilizer and pesticide applications, calibrations and maintaining records.
  • Maintaining IPM program requirements.
  • Represent the club at Association events & seminars.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with industry associates and suppliers.
