THE ROLE

Since its inception, Hylands Golf Club has matured into a top-quality golf facility that offers a full range of services and amenities to its 1200 members and their guests. A true jewel among Canadian Forces golf facilities, Hylands continues to host numerous regional, national and international events. As part of CFMWS, our mandate is to provide affordable golf to our local military personnel and their families.

As an integral part of the ground's maintenance department, the irrigation specialist will operate, repair, and maintain irrigation systems with precision and expertise.

The role involves monitoring the operation of sprinkler heads and satellites, conducting necessary repairs or replacements, and performing service on systems, including high pressure, electrical, and hydraulic components. The Irrigation Specialist will be responsible for procuring irrigation-related parts, supplies, and tools, as well as providing essential instruction and training to maintenance staff, overseeing their progress in related activities.

Seasonal maintenance tasks such as system blow-outs, pump preparation, and component calibration and repair will also be part of the role. The Irrigation Specialist will engage in minor repairs and maintenance of various structures and equipment, as well as assist in operational course maintenance duties. The role consists of handling of hazardous products including herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, and fertilizers,ensuring safe and proper application using various types of sprayers and spreaders and perform equipment maintenance, calibration and repairs as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED

Education, Certifications and Licenses

College Diploma in Horticulture or a related discipline AND several years of experience in horticulture and golf course maintenance or a related field
AND
Certification in Irrigation and/or completion of Irrigation training courses
Valid Driver’s License (Province)
Valid Pesticide Applicator’s license (Province)


Experience

In operating and applying irrigation services
In operating and preparing pumping stations
In operating golf course maintenance tools and machinery
In using building/carpentry tools


Competencies

Physical dexterity
Organizational skills


LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
English or French Essential, Bilingual an asset

This unionized position is open to all interested parties. Preference will be granted in accordance with the Collective Agreement for the UFCW local 175 bargaining unit at CFSG Ottawa-Gatineau.

This is an on-site position with an assigned work location.
